CAMP VICENTE LIM - You can run, but you can’t hide!
Two top CPP/NPA leaders found this out during Lenten break when joint PNP and AFP agents in the Calabarzon region arrested them in front of the 7-11 Convenience Store at Camella Springfield Subdivision in Brgy Molino, Bacoor, Cavite. The two were arrested last March 20, 2008 by virtue of several warrants of arrest issued by various courts in Leyte.
PRO Calabarzon Regional Director Police Chief Superintendent RICARDO I PADILLA identified the arrested suspects as Jaime Soledad y Doria and his wife, Clarita Luego y Peras. The arrest came after several months of surveillance operations conducted by the joint police and military operatives. The 57 year old Soledad alias Mike, Tony, Cyril, Anton or Glenn, is the secretary of the Leyte Island Party Committee and the concurrent member of the Eastern Visayas regional Party Committee. His 50 year wife, Clarita Luego, alias Haydee or Joy, is also suspected to be top CPP/NPA leader operating in the Eastern Visayas region.
Soledad is facing charges at RTC Branch 18 in Hilongos, Leyte for 15 counts of murder together with top ranking officials of the CPP/NPA to include Jose Maria Sison. This is in connection with the mass murders or purging committed by the CPP/NPA in Inopacan, Leyte sometime in May and June 1985. The warrant of arrest was issued last March 6, 2007.
The secretary of the CPP/NPA Leyte Island Party Committee, together with his wife Clarita and 12 others, is also facing separate charges of multiple murder in the RTC Baybay, Leyte. The alias warrant for their arrest was issued on February 7, 2002.
Furthermore, Soledad is also wanted for Murder and Frustrated Murder charges filed at RTC Branch 18 in Maasin, Leyte. The warrant fir his arrest was issued on June 7, 1994.
Regional Director Padilla congratulated the members of the tracker team for their excellent accomplishment. He stressed that the arrest of the conjugal leaders of the CPP/NPA in the Eastern Visayas is in line with the Presidential directive to eliminate, or reduce to insignificant level, the CPP/NPA threat to national security by 2010. He also stated that the arrest of the couple is a product of the intensified legal offensive of the government through the Inter-Agency Legal Assistance Group or the IALAG.
Padilla said, “The legal offensive being conducted through the IALAG concept against the organized threat groups to our national security is proving to be very successful. Now, the sins of the past committed by these top ranking CPP/NPA leaders will continue to haunt them through the arrest warrants issued by the courts. They may run, but they can’t hide. Armed with court orders for their arrest, the joint police and the military tracker teams will continue to run after them so that they will be brought to the courts of law to answer for their crimes”.Padilla added, “Unlike the CPP/NPA that kills people through their kangaroo courts, the rule of law”.
